Undergo the drivers' medical examination

Where to go
Doctor authorised to examine drivers — Only a doctor authorised for driver examinations (list at the voivodeship office). Usually no referral needed.

Obtain your Candidate Driver Profile (PKK)

Where to go
Transport department (wydział komunikacji) of the county or city office — The service is free of charge. Parental/guardian consent — only for candidates under 18 (mandatory for category B at 17). · Online (Electronic application via info-kierowca.pl (sign in with login.gov.pl / eDO App).)

Complete the course at a driving school (OSK)

Where to go
OSK — driver training centre (driving school) — Category B: at least 26 h of theory + 4 h of first aid + 30 h of practice (§ 9(1) of the reg., Dz.U. 2016 item 280). Theory can be taken externally — no theory course, straight to the WORD exam.
What to bring
Price
3200–4900 zł — Market price of the category B course (2026), varies by city: Warsaw ~PLN 4900, Wrocław ~PLN 4100, cheaper in smaller towns. Paid at the OSK, often in instalments; extra driving lessons ~PLN 150/h.

The completed training is recorded in your PKK profile — you can book the state exam at WORD.

Pass the theory exam at WORD

Where to go
WORD — voivodeship road traffic centre (state exams) — Exam languages: Polish, English, German, PJM (sign language); Ukrainian — only categories B/B1, and from 16.02.2026 also C/C1. No Russian — you may take it with a sworn interpreter at your own expense (§ 18 of the reg., Dz.U. 2023 item 2659). · Online (Exam booking: info-kierowca.pl (the main channel since 05.2026), info-car.pl (transitional) or in person at WORD.)

What you get
Your Polish driving licence. If the foreign document was not kept at submission, you hand it in at collection at the latest — you will not get the Polish licence without surrendering the foreign one. The office sends the document to the issuing country (exception: privileged categories under § 14(12) — the document stays in the case file).

Undergo the psychological examination (C/D categories and professional drivers)

Licensed psychological testing centre — Required for C/D categories and professional drivers; not for private category B. Only a licensed psychological testing centre.

Obtain the professional qualification (code 95) for C/D categories

Where to go
Professional driver training centre (initial qualification) — Initial qualification (for new drivers) or periodic training (for continuing drivers). A Ukrainian code 95 is NOT recognised in Poland — the qualification must be an EU one. Note: taxi and ride-hailing (Uber/Bolt) are different — they require a Polish driving licence (art. 39a(1)(2) of the Road Transport Act), code 95 will not help.

A certificate of professional qualification — based on it the office enters code 95 in your licence (or issues a driver qualification card). Course prices are market-based — compare centres in your city.

What can go wrong

Since 3 March 2026, category B is available from age 17, but under special conditions: parental consent, for the first 6 months driving only with a supporting driver (aged 25+ with 5+ years of licence experience), until age 18 — driving only within Poland, plus a 3-year probationary period. The course can start at 16 years 9 months.

If you are 17 — decide in advance who will be your supporting driver, and remember that driving abroad is off the table until you turn 18.

The number of exam attempts is unlimited, but each attempt is paid. Rates are set by voivodeship assemblies and indexed annually — prices differ between WORD centres.

Budget for 1–2 retakes and check the current price list on your WORD's website before booking.

The theory exam is available in Polish, English, German, PJM and Ukrainian (cat. B/B1, and from 16 February 2026 also C/C1). There is no Russian version — you may take it with a sworn interpreter at your own expense.

If you need an interpreter — find one in the sworn translators register and declare their participation when booking the exam; the interpreter assists only until the test starts.
